Prices on this site

Treatment prices shown here are ranges for typical Auckland houses, published so that you can judge whether a quote is reasonable. Nobody is bound by them: what a specific property costs is set by the written quote issued once the inspection is done.

The inspection fee and the credit

A borer inspection booked through this site costs $285 + GST. If you go ahead with the treatment that inspection recommends, through the same operator, the fee is credited against the treatment. If you decide against treatment, or have it done by someone else, the fee pays for the inspection and its written findings and nothing further is owed.

Treatment prices shown on this site are published Auckland ranges, not quotes. The price for your house is the written quote issued after the inspection.

What an inspection is and is not

A borer inspection looks for wood-boring insects and their damage in the parts of the building that can be safely reached: the roof space, the subfloor, exterior cladding and accessible joinery and furniture. It is not a building inspection, a weathertightness assessment or a structural engineering opinion, and it does not replace a pre-purchase building report.

Where timber appears weakened, the findings say so and recommend that a builder or engineer assesses it. Repairs are quoted and carried out by the builder, not by the inspector.

Access

The inspection depends on safe access. Areas that cannot be reached, such as a subfloor with too little clearance or a roof space without a hatch, are listed in the findings as not inspected.

Using the information on this site

The guides in the borer library are general information about New Zealand timber pests. They are not advice about a particular building. See the disclaimer for more.
